BOOK REVIEW : Murder On The Orient Express

Murder on The Orient Express by Agatha Christie

Genre : Mystery

  • I would clearly describe this as my best read of 2018. A lot of thanks to the person who bought me this book on 13th December because my mother was reluctant to do so.
  • I knew about Hercule Poirot, the famous character used by Agatha Christie, but I didn't get the slightest chance to know him better.
  • Even after watching so many movies and series on crime fiction/ mystery, while reading the book it never came to my mind that I wasn't watching the movie itself.
  • The book has a lot of French phrases as M. Poirot is a French subject. Don't panic! Just Google them and you can get the English translation.
  • I like the way all the detectives sit to guess and predict with all the information they have collected. And in the end, the detective, out of blue says things that he didn't even share with his companions. It happens every time and I guess it is intellectually used by authors as the climax of the plot.
  • I don't know about other Agatha Christie books but in this one, the murderer(s) ( I have used the (s) deliberately ) planned it so well that people like you and me would never even imagine of imagining a crime like that.
  • M. Bouc and dr. Constantinople helped M. Poirot with few points. But there were places where they didn't get the slightest hint given by the passengers but M. Poirot was a great man and "To a great mind, nothing is little." ( That's what the bookmark that I had been used for this book says ).
I rate this book 5/5 stars.

BOOK REVIEW: Until Love Sets Us Apart

Until Love Sets Us Apart by Aditya Nighhot

Genre: ROMANCE

PLOT:
Aisha and Rohit are two MBBS curriculum students and are completely different from each other. By 'different' I mean they're opposite in nature but try to cope up with each other to better themselves. A happy relationship which was going to see a future with Aisha and Rohit tying knots for life ultimately couldn't see the rising sun because of a terrible incident. What incident is it that changes their lives completely? Is it the extreme love that made the two separate?

CRITICAL APPRECIATION:
  • Prologue would just be a confusion and you wouldn't know what it is about until you reach the climax.
  • The first chapter didn't even for once give a hint that it is a romance novel but seemed to be a full-fledged thriller. (P.S. After completing the first chapter I had cross-checked if the genre was 'Romance')
  • As the genre says, I was sure that the thriller portion won't last long, and hence you'll notice it from the very second chapter of the book.
  • As I'm not a fan of Romance novels, in the first place I didn't want to read the book but the thriller part attracted me and I'll say that I liked the book pretty much!
  • Sometimes, the writing style turned out to be a bit amateurish.
  • I would like to add a term that, this book has a love-led-to-thrill kind of story which doesn't bore you. And I won't be able to say anything more because in that case I might give spoilers...
  • I would recommend this book to young readers because they can connect themselves well with the plot.
  • Last but not the least, the young author has a great message in the end of the book, a very intriguing message that the whole youth needs to know.

CONCLUSION:
As earlier I'll say the same that if you feel you should buy the book after reading the review, you can, and also if you don't feel like buying, it's your wish. It is my work to give you reviews about the books I read, so I do! YES AGAIN, I WOULD SAY THAT, THIS IS AN HONEST REVIEW!! You can rely on me, and also you can criticise me if you feel like. I respect your opinion and I'll expect that you'll do the same.

I rate this book 3/5.

BOOK REVIEW: Sniper's Eye

Sniper's Eye by Mainak Dhar

Genre : Thriller

ABOUT THE BOOK:
Set in post-government formation of 2015, the story intrigues the hero inside a patriot you, keeps you turning pages and leads you forward. You can sharpen your intelligence and mind skills by giving this book a read. As a matter of fact, the fight/crime scenes are described in the best way so that you can visualise the scene. In a nutshell, this book is that book which gives your mind and heart a treat.

PLOT:
A guy, Aaditya Ghosh, is on a movie date with a girl, Zoya Khan. But there takes place death of a retired army officer, shot by a sniper. However, this incident brings the protagonist, Aaditya, to a situation where his life is haunted by his marred past. So, this is a story his past's revelation, his presence of mind, heroism and a thrilling experience that you'll go through while reading the book.

WHAT I LIKED:
  • The way of narration and the way, the protagonist explained every fight or assault scene is frabjous.
  • The plot keeps you at the edge all the time. By this I mean, you can hardly manage yourself to put the book down.
  • Writing style of the author is incredible and it is complimented by the realness of the characters.
  • There are many themes that I could find in the book : Romanticism, Vengeance, Patriotism, Love, Courage, Leadership, and many more.
  • Buying this book can never be regretful because I believe since I've liked it you would like it too!
  • You'll know the sad truth of a soldier's life and after finishing the book you'd be content with many useful skills.
  • I'm in love with the cover and the way it matches with the title is very brilliant.
  • How nicely the book comes with the political essence of our country!
  • Lastly, after reading the excerpt of the second book in 7even series (given at the end of this book) , you'd be eagerly waiting to read it!

WHAT I DIDN'T LIKE: (P.S. The list is too small)

  • A common part in the plot, i.e., many books have this as a part of their plot where the protagonist has a marred past. But I also feel that without the bad past, the plot wouldn't have been so interesting.

CONCLUSION:
Buy the book if you're satisfied by my review. One thing that I would like to say is that this is an honest and unbiased review. You can completely rely on my reviews because I do my work to help you choose a good book. Thank you Mainak Dhar for letting me read this book and yes, I'll be waiting for the next book!

I give this book a rating 4/5.

Shreyosi.

BOOK REVIEW: Cierre a closure

Cierre by Matoof Khan

  Genre: Fiction

ABOUT THE BOOK:
A debut novel by Matoof Khan, but doesn't seem like a debut because of the way it's written. I'm sure readers are bound to break out of the monotonous fonts of other books, because 'Cierre' uses  Courier font throughout the book. The book is divided into two parts - first part is fast paced and leaves a lot of questions in reader's mind, and after a time lapse, second part starts which is much elaborate and less confusing.

PLOT IN SHORT:
Honestly, the plot is not very attractive but the lessons that you can pick up are efficacious. The protagonist, Aryan Ahmed who's en route for graduation, aspires to become a writer, but his over-indulgence in  alcohol and drugs makes things worse. He feels relieved by substance abuse but fails to understand the disadvantages and after-effects. The plot also revolves around few girls who came in his life, amongst them- one made him a drinker, one made him sober, the other one made him a drinker, just like a "vicious cycle" of goofing up and getting better.

WHAT I LIKED ( reasons to buy ):
  • I liked the font, and it kept me hooked till the end.
  • I liked the strong dialogues at appropriate places, carved by the debutante author.
  • The book has  lesson for people who don't have the courage to follow their own aspirations.
  • It tells how badly substance abuse ruins good moments.
  • Apart from the two parts, each part is further divided into sub-parts that keeps curiosity at peek.

WHAT I DIDN'T LIKE ( reasons not to buy ):
  • The way the book is filled with alcohol and drugs (Psst! Only if you don't like alcohol and drugs, else, you enjoy...)
  • I was eagerly waiting for a climax but couldn't find one and whatever others would call a climax was quite predictable.

CONCLUSION:
I have been sent this book by Pepperscript Publishers ( real publisher of the book ) for an honest and unbiased review which I already shared above. And I assume that you have noticed that reasons you should buy the book overweighs the reasons why not, so why wait, give it a try!

BOOK REVIEW: On the Open Road

On the Open Road by Stuti Changle

                   Genre: Self-help Fiction

'On the Open Road' starts with a beautiful, inspiring note from the author. And you would love to know the terminating line, which reads, " To the Board in Starbucks- where I completed this book, that read 'Extraordinary things come from tiny beans' ". Technically, it means coffee- an extraordinary thing in everyone's life, and literally, the ' tiny beans' can refer to each and every thought, small or big, that comes in our mind regarding our future.

So, without beating around the bush, I would like to say that this book, unlike other self-help books, reaches to the corners of our brains, reminding us of our every small ideas that might help us do better in our lives, though fictitious content. The statements is sure to connect with your thoughts, makes you realise how "some of the greatest startup ideas lie in the trash bins of cafes". You often think or imagine your life to be something that you always wanted or dreamt of, but end up feeling scared to come out of your comfort zone. You are scared that you may not fall in place; or you may fail; or sometimes you ditch your idea thinking what people might say about you! But, Kabir (a character of the novel) says, " I realised that the day you don't let others perturb you, you're on the way to greatness already. The idea of life isn't to change others, it is to make yourself so capable that external events do not affect you and you become all accepting."

This book should be an inspiration to many, I mean, most of the people in India ( since the story focuses on India's startup facilities). Because, Myra, being an employee always wanted to break out of her cubicle, to quest for something new. Well, Kabir, even after being the successor of his rich father, chose to leave his high position at his office to search for the best in himself. What did he do to fulfil his dream? Do you want to know? Then buy the book irrespective of your age because it's never late to start. If you're someone young, then I would say, the early you find the best in yourself, the greater amount of time you get to decide what you want to do.

Lastly, I would like to ask you a question. Did you ever let your alter-ego take a decision for you? I don't want to give any spoiler of the twist in the novel before you buy the book. But I can say you that it's related to the twist in the story. Oh! Yes, an advice from my side would be that, sometimes, let you alter-ego take some decisions in your life. I swear it can be life changing! Enough of it, just hurry and order your book.

So, I rate this book 4/5.

With regards,
Shreyosi.

BOOK REVIEW: The Perils of Being Moderately Famous

The Perils of Being Moderately Famous by Soha Ali Khan

Category: Non-fiction

Soha Ali Khan, an Indian actress, a writer, a mother, is endlessly gossiped to be a bit less famous than her other family members. So, she cunningly uses this point for her book title and that's quite impressive!

Next, we move on to the contents of the book which is all about her life till date. So, here is how she starts, "If you have bought/borrowed/shoplifted this book in the hopes of finding out the secret behind Kareena's glowing complexion or what Bhai really meant when he talked about the difference between nepotism and eugenics, then, unfortunately, this is not the book for you." She also thinks that she's on the wrong side of thirties and that she, getting a satisfying a role in industry is as rare as a pothole-free road on Mumbai Highway during monsoons.

It feels that she's making fun of her life, doesn't it? But you should know that, sometimes a great emotional distress is hidden behind piles of jokes. Being called as 'She's Saif Ali Khan's sister' and not Soha Ali Khan, sometimes feels bad or sometimes the irritation just gives way to submission, she says. But anyhow, it s true, she was his sister, she is and always will be!

This book shares every piece of emotion that a family or an individual experiences from life. From her father's days as a cricketer to his losing an eye, from her mother's life before marriage to her mother's days as a Bollywood actor, and from Soha's days as a Nawab princess to days at Balliol College, Oxford, took a lot of efforts to move on. Hence, this book is unputdownable for someone who loves her as a person, or who loves travelling and who loves her way of writing with whiteness and humour.

Last but not the least, a great feature of this book are the funny illustrations (I must say cartoons!) of her family members. To add, from her neonatal photographs to that of her wedding, everything just adds plus points to this book.

Enough of revelation, if you got charged by this review, do buy this book and drown yourself into her unreciprocated emotions. And yes, as a gift, you would find a newborn baby, Inaaya Naumi, stealing your hearts with her lovely eyes!!!

I rate this book 3.5/5.

Shreyosi.
